Trees of Kyoto

I sat in our healing room. The dowsing rods, from The Pyramid Lady answering questions. Pointing to the Mac, then back to me. I like to check in with them now and again. I was planning to take a break from composing Earth Tree Healing music for a few months… to recharge, not that it tires me out. Clearly 2 weeks of the lurgy, weird dreams that come with it and a shot of Night Nurse and that…was my break.

There is intermittent beatboxing coughing in the house. Frankly I’m sick of hearing it now. (The joys of working on hospital wards and in an open plan office. Excellent virus exposure!) The cats are very much more needy of fuss, as are trying to make both mummies better. Rambo cat has been pouncing on me throughout the nights in bed. But I love him. Tipsy is Queen of the duvet hogging. I’m surprised I’ve not pee’d the bed, as she will not get off easily when she is lying on top of you. In a weakened state where even my toes hurt, moving about was just silly. I feel like I’ve been pummeled by a meat tenderiser. Even Pattie Pops honoured me with a duvet cuddle. Have had far worse, but still a week of feeling pretty ghastly, I could have done without. Wellness is returning slowly.

We’d taken a drive outdoors, had breakfast. Visited the tree planted in Arnot Hill Park for Sarah Louise Kay. Layed roses. She died a year ago suddenly, 26 years old. Ange’s business partner and co-founder of candles and magical herbal incense Fenix Flames

Ange layed a Pentagram of Roses around Sarah’s Tree

Then a trip to The Real Milk company for some veg, organic milk. Love it there. Donations box.

So spirit guides, powers that be. We’d cancelled a band rehearsal. Don’t want to spread it, nor am I up for drumming quite yet. I sat and though I potter about surrounded by musical things. Played some acoustic guitar – just to check me aching fingers still work. The compulsion to set up a mic was overwhelming. The seed of an idea to make my next recordings very natural acoustically, with an array of instruments had been dormant for a while. Germination time. This channelled.

Trees of Kyoto
Wooden Xylophone and Shaker
Handpan Drum

I’d bought the wooden xylophone from a stallholder whilst performing at Under The Castle festival 2019. The shaker from a stallholder in Portsmouth. The handpan drum – Massive Thank you Pia from Pagan Tribal Gathering.

Why Trees of Kyoto? It popped in my head. May be a past life, future life. It is something bigger that the vessel that I am that created this music. I totally respect it. Definitely want to visit as it looks beautiful in bloom.

My Music Altar

My music altar is attracting and honoring such wonderful vibrational energies and creativity. It brings reassurance, law of attraction, comfort and beautiful peaceful moments.

Salt Lamp

Salt lamps bring warmth the the dark nights of January 2020. Apart from the bathroom. They adorn each room. I love the glow. Great for Reiki and meditation practice.

2018 Interview Claudine West Notts Music Network Magazine

“I was once described as ‘something close to traditional folk, to a more dreamy sound, all the way to an electro Tori Amos, an artist not to be pigeon holed.’

Read the Notts Music Network Magazine interview

“I create alternative and new age music. I’m a multi-instrumentalist currently drumming in Nottingham indie rock band ‘Strange Currencies.’ I release solo work under Claudine West and ‘Earth Tree Healing.’ I used to call myself Bog Woppit.

“My sound can be as simple as a finger picked acoustic guitar with a haunting vocal. To alternative rock with electric guitars and melodic keyboards. I’m big on harmony, melody and haunting beauty that evokes emotion. I sing a little. But musically it’s the instruments that really do the talking with my work. I am the protagonist of my lyrics. My journey as a musician though jazz, blues, folk, grunge, rock has shaped what I create. You will hear elements of all.

“I also release new age, instrumental and meditation music under the pseudonym ‘Earth Tree Healing.’ From performing on sitars to accordions, keyboards, singing bowls, bongos, mandolins and more. I’m venturing more into binaural beats and good vibrations at 432hz (the God frequency).”

History

“From my first little ‘Bontempi’ Keyboard and second hand classical guitar. I knew my fingers were a bit special. Puberty unleashed a massive rush of creativity and opened me up as a conduit. It flows through me like a stream from the mountains. But I cannot contemplate the true source. Why would I?

“On one level It’s the buzz after exercise, the wellbeing after meditation and the warmth after red wine all rolled into one. On another it is the rock and roll adrenalin fuelled orgasm and vibrational ecstasy that come with live performance. I am grateful of the bliss this life is giving me. Fame is elusive. But in the dark rooms I learned to play the guitar in, so I didn’t need to look at my fingers on the fretboard, to collecting instruments. (You can never have too many!)

“This journey is so much more satisfying in ways that money or fame cannot bring. I never got into cover bands. I’m a creator not a copier. I’ve spent a lot of time locked away from daylight in home studios. As a teenager I got into Hip-Hop, Tori Amos, Suzanne Vega and grunge music. I appreciated funky beats and rhyme. Along with learning the drums at School. I equally concentrated on piano/keyboards and guitar. Self-taught. I don’t read music much. I improvise. Playing jazz and blues music and spending my formative years jamming at live mic nights.

Claudine West

“I spent many a good and not so good time with talented and sometimes temperamental musicians. I also suffer from a sometimes creative temperament. The beast is calmer with maturity. All great learning on this road!

“Experiencing the sudden death of my music mentor and close friend in my late 20’s was sobering. It created a world of emptiness and revaluation. The writer’s block that followed took me to new shores to heal. My evolution as a songwriter, composer, musician and conduit of thoughts, damage that became lyrics.

“I also have always loved creating instrumental music. A few years ago, I trained as a Reiki Practitioner. I wanted to accompany my practice and meditations. Being part of the pagan community and a spiritual being. The long road of excess led me here. I wrote a book about my life so far. It’s not an ego massager. It is an honest and true account of how I came to be ‘Claudsville Blogs and Biog of a Bog Woppit.’ is available via Amazon Kindle.

“I’ve been in a few bands along the way to here. Namely the cofounder and a decade stint in Nottingham’s The Idolins. I moved from folk pop to rock with the short lived Subway Circus. With myself and the vocalist PP Johnson departing to form Strange Currencies.

“I crawled out of the hole a few years back and really got back into gigging. This helped me get over the stage nerves that plagued me so much. The digital age has been a fantastic enabler to share it all worldwide. I’m having a great old time! I’ve been doing all of this this for over 20 years. Balancing it with my bill paying full time day job in the NHS is hard, but if it was easy. I would not appreciate it as much.

“After I’ve departed this mortal coil, my music will live on. There is something special and humbling about that. Practice, feel it, perform it, channel it, love it.”

What I’m working on

“I’ve just got back from a trip travelling around California. I was in San Francisco and Los Angeles during the tragic wildfires of October 2017. I wrote a new song upon my return called ‘Diablo Winds.’ Which is currently on Bandcamp. This will be on my new instrumental album under ‘Earth Tree Healing’ called ‘Candle Gardeners’ which will be released on digital stores on my birthday, May 30th 2018.

“I’m also busy creating some instrumental meditation work for a few clients. New music and recording an EP with our band Strange Currencies. About to release a guided meditation album I’ve just completed with our spiritual ‘Yoda’ Sally Wathen at Rainbow Bridge. Then I’ll write and record a ‘Goddess’ themed instrumental album later in the year.”

Litha Summer Solstice

When the Sun reaches highest in the sky. We celebrate Midsummer. Litha. The Summer Solstice is a beautiful time. Gatherings, celebrations, rituals.

Yesterday (13th May 2017) I began writing and recording my new Earth Tree Healing album. Called ‘8 Sabbats.’

The music journeys through the sunrise to a crescendo of celebration. This album will feature a lot more acoustic instruments such as the sitar, mandolin, autoharp and my guitars. Getting back to my roots. Which began with folk, evolving to Grunge and beyond with the influence of the 80’s.  I’ve found my Zen with Paganism, Mother Earth, Spirituality, Meditation and Reiki.

I’m releasing this as a single on digital stores June 3rd. Enjoy. Claudine.

Becoming Moons

Becoming Moons is the new album by Multi-Instrumentalist & Songwriter Claudine West. From the debris from a galactic collision.. Comes something whole. Alternative rock with acoustic colours. Avante garde explorations, therapy, spillings, worries, dreams and meanings. Album cover comes from a guitar art piece.

This project; It’s an evolving beast. A song will be added each month until completion. Track 1.  January 2017 saw the release of single and first song ‘Mantaray.’

Joanna Thompson “Mind-blowing harmonies, the most beautifuliest of lyrics constructed so perfectly. really impressive work, you’ve real skill, keep it up and i know you’ll soar!”

A video by Claudine West accompanies this:

A strong believer in recycling. A rejected song ‘Automatic’ from band Strange Currencies Claudine had recorded the music for, was edited, with new lyrics and Claudine’s vocals.

Track 2. February 2017

THE FEAR THE FEAR THE FEAR

THE FEAR THE FEAR THE FEAR. Skirts lyrically around anxiety, paranoia and anger. Backed by a rock alternative musical core. A reflection lyrically of feeling felt during the day of writing and recording it.

THE FEAR THE FEAR THE FEAR is Track 2, in the month of February from the forthcoming 2017 solo album by Claudine West. Track 1 is Mantaray

https://claudinewestmusic.com/

Mantaray

Surrounded by storm sea surges, snow sprinklings and a panic winter press sensationalism. I’ve sat in my little music cave Claudsville Studios. With some instrumental ‘rumpy pumpy’ the first of my new born kids being dropped off at the pool is Mantaray. This embryonic adventure into haunting piano and loops, Fender guitar expelling mellow cries into the night air for alternative progression on this track. With recording equipment situated on my old Reiki treatment couch (for the vibes) I sat in the glow of a salt lamp with a Crassula Ovata (money plant) for company, while the love of my life slept in the next room. As she stirred in slumber, she believed she was sweet dreaming, listening to my early morning vocal take yawns, harmonies and lyric editing as I progressed. With an oceanic theme around rescue. The song explores the burden of love. A song that arouses from the deep blue ocean then grabs souls with its undertow. This track is number 1 of a new solo album in progress. I’ll add each song as they unfold. Under the Stephen Fry inspired working title of ‘Babbling Merchant of Drivel’ progress is inspired in a Rue Morgue kind of way.

I’m currently in the middle of recording Strange Currencies album ‘Making Monsters’ So it a very musically indulgent time. Pretty darn cool actually.  I’ve spent the last 2 evening sessions suffering low mood and  red light fever recording the acoustic guitar parts for ‘Stay Down Kid.’ My one take wonders rule left me for dust! With cats jumping all over the studio during takes, and sore fingers. I’m hoping next weeks session will tell a different story. Luckily the swearing flowed like warm pee then the boiling hormonal blood ran free and with a little assistance from some garnet gemstone in my shorts pocket. I kind of nailed it last night. We had recorded a live version to work to. PP Johnson liked his live vocals. So as I’ve just D.I.’d the acoustic. I’ve had to overdub it and mic my trusty ‘Taylor’ up.  A song that has been played loads live with my eyes closed… Well.. maybe I should have swapped mugs of tea and vitamin water for Rum. But I think its kind of there ready for mix and master. As this album evolves.. getting the right balance of ballad, funky, poptarty, dirty, distorted and hints of country. Even though I know it will work out great in the end. I learn Logic Pro X as I go. The January blues will depart and be looked upon kindly as a productive time in the darkness.

So here it is by Claudine West

Lyrics

Whispers on the waves of silence
I sensed the love in buoyance
In the eye of a hurricane
Our ship sails for America
A vortex where the renegade goes
This riptide rides the ebb and flow Chorus Jettison flames
This cargo is killing me
Mantaray
Set me free Verse 2
Those that inspire me, desire me
I’m certain of the dance
Lethal switchblades and urban food chains  Bridge
The world lights up and jettisons
The embers burned you,
The embers burned you,
The embers burned you,

Chorus

Verse 3
I buried myself in the Earth
To seek what it was worth
I carried strength and faith around
Buried scars and saviours
I quit the bad behaviours
I stopped this drowning before it took you down

Fly On The Magic Carpet Of Good Vibrations 2017

Welcome to the flood…When the molten core of a sublime energy is explored. With the energy that flows through a conduit from Heaven and Earth. Bliss…and …well being create a beautiful sky of oranges, blues, purples. That Zen moment when worlds collide. The physical and metaphysical, emotional and spiritual. When one exists in peace, safety, purity and decisive thought. No longer a traveller along the rivers of blood that the world created many seasons ago. In a time before a time. With a trigger of recognition and fortitude. The formative years flash forward into a rainbow of light. Do you now sink back and become the absorbed kin that always was? Feel comfort and gratitude for the visions that present themselves. Or fly on the magic carpet of good vibrations? Where it’s a happening or a happened. Enjoy, deal and deliver yourself. Sometimes you don’t need pictures, you just need sounds. You are the audience to yourself.

I channelled Ki Energy last night. I lit my salt lamps up and treated a friend to a Reiki Session. (I had begun channelling before I studied Reiki techniques) I’d not practised in a while- well only during the writing and recording process. It felt great. I wrote the music I made for this kind of adventure. Last night I put them both together and road tested. Track ‘Raphael’s Healing’ definitely did the trick as I worked on her Chakras. It’s a raise in key as well as vibrations.

Bit of Trivia: The beginning of ‘Ariel’ there is a clip of owls in the woods. I recorded this one night on my phone when we were staying in a log cabin in Somerset this year. (We travelled around Dorset and Devon exploring)

Angels are always invited and assist.  In 2016 I released the albums ‘Citadel’ and ‘Archangel Divination.’ It’s been a creative journey. Under ‘Earth Tree Healing.’ 2017 will see the release on digital stores of the Guided Meditation album ‘The Journey’ featuring Sally Wathen at Rainbow Bridge.

Then ‘Archangel Divination 2’

Close your eyes, open your heart and mind and listen.

Archangel Divination

November 2016: The release of Archangel Divination. An album I’m very proud of. It’s really rather beautiful. Here are a few clips:
Archangel Michael

Azrael

If I and Ange can relax and meditative to a track. It passes the ‘Claudsville’ road test. Earth Tree Healing is a project that has been going since 2014. With ‘Meditation Chronicles.’

It was recorded live without useage of looping and helped me learn more about meditation music. Being more of a folk rock instruments recorder. That dabbled in the odd instrumental.

It’s something relaxing I really enjoy doing, in between gigging and doing music with the band ‘Strange Currencies’

It’s only this last year that I’ve invested more time into writing and recording meditation and instrumental music.. and been able financially to invest in equipment needed. After accidentally buying a ‘borrower’ sized midi keyboard.

I then did my research and got a bigger one!

Mainly thanks to getting Logic Pro X. Thank you YouTube folks for some valuable instruction videos to get me started with the tip of this technology iceberg. It’s a whole new bag of sweeties after a frustrating start with Pro Tools. I’d previously used Fostex 8 and 16 track multi trackers (That’s transport had both died on me after many years of use.) My world of instruments and sounds has really opened up. Even though I’ll still be recording using my ‘real’ ones. Virtuality has enabled 2 records very quickly. I have another experimental and upbeat instrumental project called ‘Dead Vulture’
Pagan Folk Disco

Hecate

I’ve just released ‘Citadel’ which was my first venture into a spot of Pro Tools SE (before I upgraded my Mac and frustratingly found it not to be compatible) I’d also got sick if it crashing. And found it, in hindsight more complex to use than Logic.

The is a December 2016 release of Sally Wathen’s Rainbow Bridge 2 on its way too. That my self published quota sorted until whatever the new year inspires… enjoy.

Vivid Weekends Starve The Sky

A compilation and journey through some of my rarities and demos and ideas. A selection. Recorded long before grey hairs started to sprout. While mastering my craft. The first room I rented after leaving home – I was 19. Aloof and angry. I’d converted to a music room with a small bed in the corner.Recording with drum pads on my kit. I worked a lot with flangers, string keyboard arrangements, instrumentals. I played with sweet haunting melodies and lyrics of intense turmoil, release, storytelling, endings, new beginnings.  Grimm also features on a few tracks performing guitar solos. There were a lot of death themes going on around that time in my life. I’d had major face surgery (September Brings was written about it) I obsessed with morbid explorations, cadavers. Indulged with alcohol and substance abuse. Sometimes freeing the mind invites Demons. Or just opens locked doors. Painting and musically recreating ones vivid dreams & nightmares at weekends …It was a productive but dark decade. Then I really fell in love.
